What we do
We believe that every child deserves to live their full potential and therefore we strive to create a conducive environment in which all the children of interest and their families are cared for, protected and supported holistically through Livelihoods, Education and health interventions while at the same time ensuring protection of children and the environment they live in.
Our work is largely resilience building for children and their families
Livelihoods
The well-being of Children is the only entry-point of all our livelihoods programming. We strive to strengthen vulnerable children families to attain sustainable livelihoods so that in turn they are able to provide for the child’s basic and essential needs. Our interventions essentially focus on providing a combination of the following as needed: a) Food production both for the market and own use; b) participation in Savings and Lending community activities; c) support to alternative income generation activities like start-up of small and viable businesses; d) animal husbandry, poultry farming and apiary.
Education
A family that has access to education services either leading to self-care of attainment of employable skills is more likely able to provide security for their children and guarantee their well-being. We therefore: a) promote access to formal education for children of school-going age, provide learning materials and tuition for the most vulnerable children; b) promote access to vocational training for out of school youth, provide learning materials and start-up kits for those who graduate and are in need.
Health
In health service provision, we strive to ensure that every household where children live is: a) Malaria free; b) knowledgeable and have access to healthy and nutritious diets; c) able to access safe water and associated WASH services and d) knowledgeable and have access to reproductive health services.
Environment
Children thrive better in secure natural environments. Our focus to to limit destruction of the available natural resources in the environment surrounding homesteads and promote their sustainable usage. We promote tree-growing for woodlots, fuel-wood and forage and encourage sustainable harvesting to the natural vegetation using the Farmer Managed Natural regeneration (FMNR) model.
Child protection
Child Neglect and Abuse are the common challenges that many children encounter in their lifetime. We therefore strive to prevent and protect children from all actions and omissions that lead to neglect and abuse. We ensure that every household enrolled into our programming, stakeholders and our team is knowledgeable about the rights of children and that duty-bearers provide adequate response for every case of abuse, exploitation or neglect.
Cross-cutting
We ensure that all our programming are sensitive to and integrate aspects of Gender equity, psycho-social support, advocacy and conflict sensitivity so as to realize holistic outcomes in the work we do.
